Q.What compelled you to write this book on President Obama?

A.I had written several long profiles of Barack Obama for The Washington Post during the 2008 campaign, but had not committed to writing a book about him because of my dismay over the modern American political culture, which I felt made it increasingly problematic for serious political historians to pursue fact and truth amid the ideological rubble and rabble of the moment.
